He starts trash talking right away while I was holding the dice.

Don’t Guy: "My man thinks he got skills!!!, 3-4, 5-2, 6-1 SHOOTER!!!" I usually would just color out but I decided to go ahead and ignore him. I kept hitting points and he kept loosing his don’t bet. His constant harangue continued with every throw. Then the point was 5, I turned to him and said "If you saw me playing earlier at [CS] you would not be betting against me. He got upset and yelled out "Oh yea, well make me a believer !!!" Then he turned to the dealer and wanted to put an additional LAY bet of $800 on the Point 5. The dealer asked him for additional money, not sure how much. He asked why, the dealer said "Sir, you have to pay the Juice". He threw the dealer the amount and yelled to me. "You hear that Shooter, I just paid the JUICE to take you out, that make you Ron Goldman, Shoot Ron!!! Shoot that 5-2, 3-4, 6-1, Lets get that SEVEN!!!!" At this point I put the dice down, and I said: "Not only am I going to hit the Point 5, I am going do it in one throw and its going to be a 3-2" So during practice I noticed 5s come out like 65% of the time if I hardway set with my thumb on the 3s and 2s in the sky".
So in one throw, I threw a 3-2 and he screamed "GOD DAM!!! your good" The pit boss asked to see the dice and inspected it before my next throw. I think he was listening to the back and forth. The don’t guy asked me "Where you from? Where you from?" I said "I am from the land of make believe". He got pissed off at my response and continued to place lay bets against me and dig into his pockets for more cash. When I heard his gf tell him "Baby he good, stop betting against him" I decided to color out and make my way to the cage to get my $200 gain while leaving the don’t at a near wipeout.

I have not been counting my rolls. The metric I use is to add up the total hours of play and divided by the Gain/Loss to come up with a profit or loss per hour of play. This allows me to zero in on a targeted casino/table, and when I know a table really well I notice I can make $200-$500 per hour.

So question to the reader. What would you have done?

Replies:

Posted by: JawBones on August 8, 2018, 6:21 pm

That’s a great and fun story. I, too, love to run don’t players away but I personally never get into a back and forth with them. Couple of reasons. First, if I am taking the time to respond, they are definitely in my head where they don’t belong. If they are getting to me, it’s time to color up and walk. Second, the last thing I want to do is call even more attention to the way I throw. Get enough heat as it is without calling out my shot.

The one thing I will say, though, is if you are going to call your shot you want to hit it. I don’t care what other players are betting or saying. I don’t pay any attention to them whatsoever. I will certainly not engage with an obnoxious, loud mouth player. That is one discussion I can not win. I would have completely ignored that don’t player. I have no interest in seeing him win or lose money. His bankroll has no impact on mine. I am only concerned with my own money.

I will engage in banter with the dealers even when I am throwing, but only in between my rolls. I do this to deflect them from what I am doing and to make them enjoy my play. I make jokes, talk to them about their families, interests, whatever it takes to get them on my side. But once the dice are passed to me and I reach down to set them, I am all business. All discussion stops and I completely concentrate on the job at hand.

After I set, grip and pick up the dice, I focus entirely on my target. While aiming at my target I am able to block out everything else that is happening around me.

Once there was a player who made a late bet just before I released the dice at the opposite end of the table to which I was throwing. My friends asked if he distracted me. I had no idea what they were talking about. I never saw him call out the bet or throw the money into the middle in front of me. I was looking at my target a few inches before the back wall and never saw anything he did.

Apparently he was also making a lot of noise making his late bets. What you do with the envelopes that you showed everyone in class is just a fantastic idea. So what I am about to say, please take it in the grain that it is meant to be taken….learning from someone that is older and maybe a little bit wiser about this dice control thing. This comes from my heart for you and everyone else on this board.

In my younger days as the Documentary shows, I was a show off. BUT that was before this dice control thing really took off. No one believed it and casinos were really looking for cheaters. As dice control has grown and I believe it is because of the contribution of GTC, that is a different story. By doing what you did, banter with the DC player and then the ultimate calling out the way you were going to make your point just put a red flag on you evidence by the Pit wanting to look at the dice.

Take it from someone that has been banned so many times and have gotten his friends banned just because they are with me, it is not a badge of honor. In fact it sucks that I can’t play at some of my favorite casinos anymore.

So take it from this old man – keep it under the radar for yourself and for other dice controllers who will be at the casino and throw the same way.

Dom

Posted by: Dr Crapology on August 9, 2018, 12:04 pm

Well said Dom.

Posted by: MrPiP on August 9, 2018, 1:20 pm

Thanks everyone, I will take the advice given here. I’m amiable with most every player and the casino staff. After all, I’ve got no ax to grind. When a player throws me money, I might take the time to see what that player is winning on my rolls. I’m happy to see someone else make money, too. Just last week, I was hitting a lot of 10’s. A player on my end threw me a chip, and I saw he was making $100-$300 bets on the Field. He was up $3000+ at the last roll. I remember needing a 6 to make the all-Tall-small, and never hit it, strangely enough. Of course, with come bets, it didn’t really matter to me – if I never roll a number, that number never has any of my money. And, of course, as the dice went around the table, the Field bettor lost back all his money – oh well.

Later that day, a Don’t better took up position at my end. It’s his money, so whatever. I don’t care. Well into my roll, he started yelling, very loudly, just as my dice left my fingers, presumably to make me jump. He’d yell, “There it is!” Sadly, I don’t jump, ever. Now, if it had been some younger guy or gal, I would have dismissed it as the prattle of children (I do have 7 children and 10 grandchildren). I couldn’t help but notice it was a guy my age or older. He was being rude, and it was bad etiquette, and, as expected, no dealer tips from this guy. I tried to overlook it. Nope, not happening. When I got the dice, I could tell he was preparing to do it again. I picked up the dice, paused, then set them down. I turned, looked at the guy square on, and gave him a long, cold stare for 5+ seconds. I then picked up the dice and carried on. I never said anything. But, he shut up. Did he continue to bet the Don’t? I don’t know. I never gave him a moment’s notice after that. He might have even started yelling again – didn’t care anymore.

As Dom said, what I did was inadvisable. And, as Dom, I’ve mellowed with age. It just hit me the wrong way. Guess I still have limits. In retrospect, I’m pretty sure if another GTC player had been at the table, I would not have noticed the guy. I really enjoy having another GTC player at the table. There’s a lot to be said about comradery, and trained GTC players are the best.

Posted by: DoughBoy on August 10, 2018, 2:29 am

I think there has been a lot of good advice offered here.
