I tried to search, but couldn’t find what I was looking for, so I figured I would ask … When going on a trip, and you stop at a casino that you have never played at, is not ‘linked’ to any of the regular casinos that you do play at regularly, does one get a players card for this casino?
I understand using a card, that way you can earn room comps, dinners and things. But if it is your first time there and as of now just passing thru, do you get a card, or just let it go, until the next time you happen to make a trip out that way again.
I’ve got my own thoughts and feelings on this, but wonder what others would say, especially the veterans of this sport that may come across this more than others ….
Thanks!!!

There are a few places I never expected to be again that I found myself again at. It was nice to at least get a free meal in advance from the play I had the last time.

If getting bombarded with marketing material bothers you or you are not able to control your urge to become a higher level player by gambling more than you planned, then you should not get a player card.
But if those things don’t affect you, go ahead and get a player card at every casino at which you play regularly.

Most casinos offer some type of consideration to people who sign up with them for the first time. If they are offering something you can use, go ahead and get their card. If you expect you might play at this casino again in the future, go ahead and get their card. If neither of these are relevant then there is probably no reason to get their card. But as JesJac says, sometimes you play there again even though you did not expect it. You might as well get the card because it could be of some value to you in the future.
But in all situations you must avoid the player card trap at all costs. Do not get enticed by their attempt to get you to play for more to get their rewards. If they give you something for your play, take it and be happy. The advantage play is to take anything they give you without risking any more than you intended to get it.

sLOTS GET THE MOST BUT THE . 🙁 🙁 But true .
Now I was on a trip in Reno and got a players card . But I did ASK what do I get for signing up .If you do not ask they NO TELL .THEY TOLD ME THAT i GOT A FREE MEAL . GREAT THEN AFTER THEY GAVE ME THE VOUCHER I said is there any thing else .They said that I could get show tickets .
This was great since we had not been to one in a long time . While standing in line the couple behind us said that they payed 149.00 for their tickets . I told them how we got ours and they said they would sign up the next day . Thank you .I don’t know if they did .
The show was great but the next trip we asked and they said that we were in the system even tho it was 5 yrs . later .
I one time got 70% off show tickets do to a little lie but not by me but my Aunt saying that the husbands were retired vets .We are retired and veterans .
The thing is that if you don’t ask they don’t tell .So some times it pays to ask more then once .
Your mail BOX will get full .
Good Rolling. 🙂 🙂

The card does not make us play higher or lower longer than we usually do. If the comps come, the comps come. We have our limits which we adhere to religiously. Our 401g determines our level of play–nothing else.
We love to get the offers via email or snail mail or phone calls. We do go often–we are retired so have the time–and if offers are for a place where we usually go or want to go, we are happy to take the free buffets or meal comp dollars, free or discounted rooms etc. If there is an offer in a certainly month or week and we are going anyway we are happy to go pick up the free silverware, cooler, jacket, scarf or what ever. BUT we don’t go out of our way to get this free item. Some of there give away items make good gifts for friends or our kids. One daughter still enjoys the slow cooker that we got a couple of years ago. We go for this only if we are going anyway.
Nice thread. Thanks for posting.

However, I believe in this one case you are in a class of one. One we all aspire to as far as skill goes.
